Ingredient Notes
Brie Cheese: buttery and creamy! This is a really versatile cheese. If it's your first time eating brie make sure to eat the rind!
Puff Pastry: My buttery and flaky freezer staple! When baked to a perfect golden it is addicting. You can find puff pastry in the freezer section at your local grocery store.
Honey: adds just the perfect amount of sweetness to cut through the rich cheese.
White Truffle Oil: Very earthy, pungent and deliciously funky. Can find a variety of truffle oils at Whole Foods, Williams Sonoma or order online at Amazon (this is the variety I use).
Egg: used as an egg wash to ensure we get a perfectly golden brown. The ratio for egg wash is 1 egg + 1 tablespoon of water beaten together.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Start by pre-heating your own to 400°F and thawing 1 sheet of puff pastry according to package directions. Then, mix honey and white truffle oil in a small bowl and set aside.
- Once the puff pastry is thawed, roll out on a clean flat surface with is lightly dusted with flour. Roll out to roughly 10 inches x 10 inches.
- Place puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Then spread, truffle honey in the middle of the puff pastry .Spread it until it is the same diameter of the brie roughly.
- Place brie on top of the truffle honey.
- Fold the corners and put them into the center of the brie. It should look like a square diamond and lightly pinch together.
- Again, fold the corner one at a time into the center and pinch together. Then, brush with egg wash (1 egg beaten with a tablespoon of water).
- Bake for 20-30 minutes until puff pastry is golden brown
- Cool slightly and serve hot with a variety of accompaniments.
Expert Tips:
- On a Roll: A rolling pin is what is recommended to roll out the dough. But, a wine bottle can be used as a rolling pin in a pinch with limited kitchen tools.
- Keep it clean!: Lining your baking pan with parchment paper- before putting the brie down helps reduce residue on the pan. Also, you can pick up the parchment paper to transfer the brie to whatever platter you use.
Recipe FAQs
Substitute layered & buttered, phyllo dough sheets for the puff pastry or crescent roll dough in a pinch. Just make sure to press together the perforation in the dough.
While I love the combination of honey and brie! But, fruit and cheese are a classic pairing. Use any type of fruit jam - raspberry, strawberry, fig, apricot, peach ,etc.
- Crackers + Bread: the perfect eatable vessel for shoving oozy cheese into your mouth. Baguette and plain crackers are the best so it does not compete with the flavor of the baked brie. You can also serve with crostini.
- Fresh Fruit: Any variety of apple, grapes and pears.
- Mixed Nuts: makes the dish more substantial and offer more earthiness.
