Winter is coming... bring on the blood oranges! Blood oranges are a variety of orange with ruby red/deep red flesh. They taste juicy, sweet, and tart. It's beyond delicious in this Whipped Blood Orange Feta Dip. This recipe is only 7 ingredients and takes just a few minutes to whip together in a mini food processor. This velvety rich dip is perfect for parties, small gatherings, and snacking... really anytime!

This Whipped Blood Orange Feta Dip is topped generously with clover honey, fresh mint, and crushed pistachios. I like to serve this dip with toasted garlic naan. This dip has EVERYTHING! Freshness and citrus from the blood oranges. Funkiness and tanginess from the feta. Creaminess from the ricotta. Sweetness from the honey, coolness from the mint, and a bit of crunch from the salted and roasted pistachios.

  • Pistachios: a wonderful way to add extra texture. I love the taste of pistachios with the mint and blood orange but toasted sliced almonds or event walnuts would be wonderful as well.
  • Mint: gives the dip a cool and refreshing pop!
  • Ricotta: whole milk ricotta for extra creaminess and richness.
  • Feta: Use a block of good quality feta that's been refrigerated in the brine.
  • Blood Orange: has a more tart and sweet flavor. If you can't find blood orange, you can use a standard orange or even grapefruit or lemon in a pinch.
  • Honey: Add sweetness to this citrus, herby dip. I used a clover honey, which honey gets its primary nectar source from the clover honey. But, you can use a standard honey or even use hot honey if you like it a little spicy.
  • Naan: for serving! But serve it with baguette, pita, or even raw vegetables.

Expert Tips

  • Use quality feta cheese. For this recipe, you want to look for a block of a creamy Greek feta. Avoid crumbled feta, which is too dry and won't taste as good in this recipe. You will want to make sure you use a feta is in brine.
  • Whip it up good! Make sure to use a food processor or blender, a stand mixer will not able to break down the feta well enough.
A hand holding a triangle of pita is dipping it into a small bowl of dip with mint and pistachios. The bowl sits on a plate with more triangles of pita.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make this recipe ahead?

Technically, yes, you can make this recipe a day ahead, but be sure to bring it to room temperature before serving. Then, top right before serving. I personally, thing it takes so little time to make, I really recommend making it day-of.

How do I make this dip extra smooth?

If desired, after blending but before you top, you can pass the dip through a fine-mesh strainer for a silkier texture.
