Tempura shrimps are great when fried but they're even better cooked in the air fryer. This Air fryer tempura shrimp is light, crispy, and crunchy on the outside, and delicious. Plus, cooking frozen food in the air fryer is a great way to get that fried taste without all the added oil.

Ingredient Note

All you need is a box of frozen Tempura Shrimp. Check your local grocery store OR Trader Joe's.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. ARRANGE - Place the frozen tempura shrimp in the air fryer basket and arrange them in a single layer so they are not overlapping.

  1. COOK - Air fry frozen tempura shrimp for 8- 10 minutes at 400°F. Flipping the shrimp at least once, halfway to ensure even crisping.

  1. COOL & SERVE - Allow to cool for 1-2 minutes before serving with your choice of dipping sauce OR enjoy in ramen, udon or with rice

Expert Tips

No extra oil needed! There is no need for oiling your air fryer basket with these frozen tempura shrimp, they are oily enough on their own.

Flip Halfway Through -  Flip the shrimp at least once halfway during the cooking process to ensure the tempura shrimp is cooked evenly.

Cooking Time Can Vary - Not all air fryers are the same! You may to watch your food closely toward the end of the cooking cycle. You maybe need to adjust your time by a minute or two depending on these factors. Cook in batches if needed!

How should I serve Tempura Shrimp/ What sauce to serve wtih?

Tempura Shrimp can be served by itself simply with sauce OR can be added to dishes as quick and delicious protein like:
- Udon
- Ramen
- Rice
- Sushi Roll
- Sushi Rice Bowl (as pictured) with cabbage, rice, jalapeno, seaweed, cucumber, sweet soy glaze, sriracha mayo and sesame seeds. Other toppings can be - seaweed salad, avocado, carrot, edamame, corn, crab salad, radish.

Do I need to thaw my frozen tempura shrimp?

Nope, no need to thaw. Just place them into the air fryer.

I have a Ninja 4 qt air fryer! It's perfect for two people. However, there are so many great options for air fryers. Check out Amazon or Target.
